JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Former President of the Popular Consultative Assembly (MPR) and high-ranking politician, Amien Rais highlighted the government’s decision regarding the dissolution of the community organization of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) through a Joint Decision Letter (SKB) signed by six ministers / heads of institutions.

Amien assessed that the dissolution of the FPI was a political step that brought down the construction of democracy in Indonesia.

Amien also highlighted the government’s consideration to dissolve the FPI, that is, the existence of officials and members of the FPI who were involved in criminal acts of terrorism.

Amien assessed that, in this regard, the government immediately concluded that there were terrorists in the FPI.

“So when they considered this, they immediately concluded that yes without babibu, don’t argue, we cannot argue yes,” he said.

He also reminded President Joko Widodo and the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD, to review the decisions and actions that the government has taken.

The government decided to stop the activities and dissolve the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) starting today, Wednesday (12/30/2020).

The government has recorded a number of activities by FPI members that are contrary to the law. In fact, there were dozens of FPI officials and members involved in criminal acts of terrorism.

“That the administrators and / or members of the FPI who have joined the FPI are based on data that up to 35 people were involved in criminal acts of terrorism,” said Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Eddy Hiariej in a press conference at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry of Political, Legal and Security Affairs, on Wednesday (12/30/2020).

Of the 35 people, Eddy said, 29 of them have been convicted.

Not only that, there were 206 officials and members of the FPI who were involved in various other general crimes. Of these, 100 of them have been convicted of crimes.

The government also said that the FPI often violated legal provisions because it carried out various acts of search or sweep in the community.

In fact, these activities are actually the duty and authority of law enforcement officials.

Based on these considerations, the Minister of the Interior of the Republic, the Minister of Law and Human Rights, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, the Attorney General, the Chief of Police, the Head of the National Antiterrorist Agency (BNPT ) decided to stop and ban the activities of the FPI.

“To declare that the Islamic Defenders Front is an organization that is not registered as a social organization as regulated in the laws and regulations, so it has de jure dissolved as a social organization,” Eddy said.
