Jakarta –
Sergio Agüero was Diego Maradona’s son-in-law in the past. The Manchester City striker also felt sadness at the death of the Argentine legend.
Diego Maradona died of cardiac arrest on Wednesday (11/25/2020), a few hours before the fourth day of the Champions League, including Olympiacos vs Manchester City.
In that match there was also a tribute to Maradona before the match started, and Agüero played in the second half. About an hour after the game, which City won 1-0, Agüero wrote his condolences on his social media.
“We will not forget you. You will always be with us. #TerimaKasihDiego,” Agüero wrote on Twitter.
Agüero’s sadness was also understood by City coach Pep Guardiola. The Spanish businessman immediately thought of his player when asked about the news of Maradona’s death.
“The first (I think he is) to support Sergio, because Diego is the grandfather of his son,” Guardiola was quoted as saying by the official UEFA website.
Agüero was once married to Gianinna Maradona, who was Maradona’s second daughter with his ex-wife, Claudia Villafane. The Agüero-Gianinna marriage produced a son named Benjamín Agüero Maradona.
The marriage was also approved by Maradona, even the legend was present even at the Manchester City match, just to support Agüero. Unfortunately, the marriage ran aground in 2012.
Maradona was upset with Agüero for divorcing his daughter and called the 32-year-old a coward. Now Agüero has move on and is in a relationship with a model, Sofia Calzetti.
