Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Students SMAN 6 Depok, Evan Clementine was forced to abandon his intention to become president OSIS at school suspected of not being Muslim.
Evan was unable to become the student council president after the SMAN 6 Depok electoral committee decided to repeat the electoral process on the grounds that the electronic voting (e-vote) system was damaged.
In fact, in the electronic voting process last Tuesday (11/10), before it was decided to repeat it, Evan received the most votes among the other four candidates for president of the student council. However, the committee and the school later informed Evan that the election had to be repeated because many students had not voted.
“I have already conveyed what I have to say. I want to say that voting again is not the best decision,” Evan said. CNNIndonesia.com, Thursday (11/12).
Evan suspected the reason for re-election was an excuse not to become Student Council president. The accusations came after multiple snippets of the conversation he received contained various attempts to prevent Evan from becoming student council president.
Evan also confirmed the news a day after the electoral process that was later canceled. Evan had asked SMAN 6 Depok’s deputy director.
“From the moment I was suddenly summoned, I finally said, why was the vote again, is it because of my religion? He said: ‘No, it’s impossible. I shouldn’t think like that,'” he said, imitating the response of the deputy chief Justice.
And finally I arrived this morning before the Deputy Chief of Staff and the director of my parents’ school as well and I have transmitted it and it is their decision, “he added.
Evan has now decided to resign the candidacy. He believed that he could not be elected or would not be allowed to become president of the Student Council.
The reason is, according to Evan, that this case is not the first time it has happened. According to him, his desire to become president of the Student Council is to show that everyone, regardless of their religious background, can become a leader.
“I want to ask for justice as a belief, as for example, everyone has the right to be a leader regardless of religion. Whatever happens, if the quality is good, you have the right to be a leader,” he said.
SMAN 6 Depok chief Abdul Fatah asked that the matter not be brought up to religious matters. According to him, the case was purely a technical error in the damage to the electronic voting system used by the electoral committee.
Fatah confirmed that the decision to repeat electronic voting was not due to Evan’s religious background. He suspected that the topic was only used by certain interest groups.
“I make sure it’s not that, it’s a problem, it’s usually used by certain people who feel uncomfortable. I make sure it’s not in that direction,” he said.
