A total of 12,369 employees combined TNI–Policeman and local governments deployed to ensure action manifestation reject the Omnibus Copyright Law in Jakarta on Wednesday (10/28).
Polda Metro’s Head of Public Relations Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus said that there were three locations that were the target of today’s rally, namely around the Arjuna Wiwaha horse statue, the DPR building and around Jalan Proklamasi.
“The security forces that we have prepared are around 12,369 joint personnel from TNI, Polri and the government to secure the three locations,” Yusri told reporters on Wednesday (10/28).
In addition to securing the demonstration site, the joint staff also carried out security at a number of other locations ranging from economic centers, shopping malls, markets, as well as to ensure the diversion of traffic flows.
Yusri said up to 8,000 joint staff members were set aside to help secure action. Reserve personnel are on alert at Monas and the DPR building.
“While looking at the energy situation that will drop to demonstrate or give public opinion,” he said.
Yusri also called on protesters to adhere to health protocols because this demonstration took place in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic situation.
In addition, the police also called on the protesters to demonstrate in a peaceful and orderly manner.
“We escort, we do security, but let’s be prudent in doing it peacefully, that’s our hope,” Yusri said.
Workers and students held a demonstration today against the Ciptaker Omnibus Law. At this rally, the Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI) continues to demand that President Joko Widodo repeal the law.
BEM SI central coordinator Remy Hastian stated that 1,000 students will join the rally, although the location of the action has yet to be determined.
Meanwhile, around 1,500 worker members of the Joint Popular Trade Union Movement (Gebrak) said they would take to the streets. They said they would perform around the Monument to the Proclamation.
“Gebrak will hold the Grand Forum for the No Trust Movement on October 28, with an estimated mass of 1,500 people,” Gebrak spokesperson Nining Elitos said on Wednesday (10/28).
