MAKASSAR, KOMPAS.com – A demonstration against the ratification of the Omnibus Law of the Employment Creation Law that took place in Jalan AP Pettarani right in front of the UNM Makassar campus, on Thursday (10/22/2020) ended in chaos.

Protesters and local residents clashed. Throwing stones was unavoidable, causing residents who wanted to cross the street to take another alternative route.

As a result of the confrontation, the Nasdem Party DPD office in Jalan AP Pettarani was also damaged by unknown persons. In addition, the Nasdem party ambulance in the office yard was also burned.

The rally, which started at 17.00 WITA, went smoothly. Dozens of students gave speeches rejecting the ratification of the Omnibus Law, which is considered not to be on the side of ordinary people.

At 9:00 p.m., WITA students began to block the Trans Sulawesi route and attacked the Nasdem Party office that was located in front of the UNM campus.

In addition to destroying the office, the protesters also attacked a minibus and two motorcycles parked in front of the party office.

Not only that, an ambulance unit belonging to the Nasdem party was also burned.

However, it was not long before the action ended in chaos when a group of people began to riot by attacking the office of the DPD of the Nasdem Party, which was not far from the scene of the action.

The Nasdem Party office was damaged. The glass in the office shattered. An ambulance that was in the courtyard was taken out by a stranger and set fire to it.

“I don’t know who attacked first, but suddenly an ambulance burned down,” said Esa, one of the residents who saw the fire incident.

Local residents who began to get angry and then attacked by throwing stones at the riotous crowd.

The confrontation continued, throwing stones and firecrackers on the UNM Makassar campus.

Until this news was released, the police are still trying to reduce the chaos. It is also unclear who and the motive for the attack on the Nasdem Party office.
