JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Honorary Council of the Electoral Organizer (DKPP) decided to remove Arief Budiman from his post as Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) in the case of dismissal of KPU Commissioner Evi Novida Ginting Manik.

The decision was read out at the DKPP conference held on Wednesday (1/13/2021) and broadcast online.

“The imposition of the final harsh warning sanctions and the removal of the defendant Arief Budiman from the post of KPU Chairman as KPU Chairman since this decision was read,” said DKPP Chairman Muhammad.

In the decision, DKPP also granted complaints from some complainants.

Then order the KPU to implement this decision no later than seven days after reading the decision.

The DKPP also ordered the Electoral Supervision Agency (Bawaslu) to supervise the implementation of this decision.

Arief was previously suspected of violating ethics by accompanying KPU Commissioner Evi Novida Ginting Manik to the State Administrative Court (PTUN), which was dismissed by DKPP at the time.

DKPP Secretary Bernard Darmawan said the plaintiff, who was a resident named Jupri, sued for accompanying or escorting Evi Novida, who at the time had been fired by DKPP on March 18, 2020 to register the lawsuit in the Jakarta State Administrative Court.

Furthermore, the author argued that Arief had made a decision that allegedly exceeded his authority, namely to issue RI KPU letter Number 665 / SDM.13.SD / 05 / KPU / VIII / 2020 dated August 18, 2020.

In mid-March 2020, the public was excited to learn that Evi Novida was fired from her position as KPU by DKPP.

Evi was fired because he was found to have violated the code of ethics. However, on Monday (8/24/2020), Evi was re-elected as the Indonesian KPU Commissioner.

Evi’s return to the KPU was not without effort, but through a long and long process.

The removal of Evi Novida Ginting Manik as commissioner of the KPU was decided at the DKPP session, on Wednesday (3/18/2020).

Evi is considered to have violated the Code of Ethics and the Code of Conduct for Election Organizers in relation to the vote acquisition case of legislative candidates in the 2019 elections.

Following up on the DKPP decision, President Joko Widodo issued a presidential decree (Keppres) to remove Evi Novida as KPU commissioner.

Then on April 19, 2020, Evi also filed a lawsuit with the PTUN in the case of his dismissal as commissioner of the Indonesian KPU.

Evi sued Jokowi’s Presidential Decree Number 34 / P of 2020 which dishonorably dismissed him as of March 23, 2020.

Through his lawsuit, Evi asked the PTUN to declare the Jokowi Presidential Decree on his dismissal null and void.

After going through a series of trials involving several witnesses and experts, the PTUN decided to grant all the claims presented by Evi Novida.

Through its decision issued on July 24, 2020, the PTUN ordered President Jokowi to revoke the Presidential Decree on the removal of Evi.
