Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
The Secretary General of the Democratic Party, Teuku Riefky Harsya, is concerned that his party will not be able to participate in the 2024 elections if the coup movement carried out by the Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko and several cadres is successful.
Riefky said there are many examples of party destruction from management dualism.
“If this bad scenario occurs, the Democrats will certainly not be able to participate in the regional elections of 2024 and the next ones,” Riefky said in the official broadcast of the Democratic Party DPP, on Friday (5/2).
According to Riefky, the fate of the Democrats would be regrettable if the coup occurred. The government, he said, could declare the Democrats invalid because there are two presidents.
Riefky said concern was the reason why Democratic President General Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) raised the issue of the coup to the public.
He emphasized that Democrats want to deal with Moeldoko’s coup movement in a good way. According to him, these efforts were made for the fate of millions of Democratic cadres.
“For the sovereignty and survival of the Democrats to be maintained,” he said.
Earlier, Democrats revealed that there was an attempt to take over a party that involved close circles of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). The presidential chief of staff, Moeldoko, is accused of being the mastermind behind the movement.
Moeldoko immediately denied the accusation. He stressed that his meeting with various Democratic cadres was only for a regular friendship.
“My advice is to be a leader, you have to be a strong leader, don’t get bored easily, don’t be swayed, etc.,” Moeldoko said at an online press conference on Monday (1/2).
“If the men are not allowed to go anywhere, just handcuff them,” added the former TNI commander.
