Napoli beat AS Roma 4-0 on matchday nine of the Italian League. Partenopei looked crazy, as if he wanted to give his best performance to commemorate the departure of his legend, Diego Maradona.

In San Paolo, on Monday (11/30/2020) morning WIB, Napoli appeared in a special uniform to pay tribute to Maradona, who passed away on Wednesday (11/25). Not light blue as usual, but with a blue and white vertical stripes pattern typical of the Argentine national team.

Wrapped in uniforms, they also seemed dominant. With ball possession of up to 54 percent throughout the game, Lorenzo Insigne and others made 14 shots, eight of which led to the Roma goal guarded by Antonio Mirante.

Napoli finally managed to stand out thanks to Insigne’s free-kick goal in the 31st minute. Fabián Ruiz’s long-range shot in the 64th minute increased Gennaro Gattuso’s team lead. Goals from Dries Mertens (81 ‘) and Matteo Politano (86’) added to the excitement of Napoli’s goal game.

This result became Napoli’s first Serie A victory after Maradona left. Three days earlier, they also beat Rijeka 2-0 in the Europa League, where eleven from Napoli entered the field in jersey number 10, the typical number of the D10S that is now retired.

After the match, Gattuso also admitted that he was pleased with the appearance of his adopted children. This is the Napoli shape he wants every week.

“What I like is the attitude of the players today. When the teammates make mistakes, they help each other, they cheer each other up, they don’t let it go. That’s what I want to see,” Gattuso told Sky Sport Italia.

Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret said this victory was for Maradona. For the 23-year-old goalkeeper, winning big against Roma is the best way to remember the legend, who once led Napoli to two Scudetto victories.

“The memories of Maradona are so strong in this city, because here he has written history. He created a strong bond with the fans, that nobody else has, which makes him look like a god,” Meret said.

“Now we have to remember it in the best way, which is to win this game,” he explained.
