Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Culinary startup, Mangkokku has secured its first funding (seed funding) of $ 2 million (Rs 29 billion) from venture capital Alpha JWC Ventures.

Mangkokku is a startup that offers dishes in the form of a rice bowl or rice with side dishes served in a bowl. This startup was founded by Arnold Poernomo (Chef Arnold), Randy Kartadinata and two sons of President Joko Widodo, Gibran Rakabuming and Kaesang Pangarep.

Currently, Mangkokku has 22 branches in Jabodetabek and will expand to Surabaya in the near future. With this latest funding, Mangkokku plans to increase the number of outlets to 30 branches by the end of 2020 and 75 branches by 2021.

“Our love for Indonesian food is the basis for the founding of Mangkokku. We believe that the strength of this company is in the delicacy of our food and continuous culinary innovation,” Arnold explained quoted in the official statement on Tuesday (11/24) / 2020).

“However, we also take a global business perspective. We believe that in order to grow quickly and sustainably, we must continue to provide superior products at affordable prices and uphold the standards of every bowl served. Therefore, we operate all of our branches ourselves and use high-tech equipment in the main kitchen to maintain product quality and consistency. “

As an initial step in the development of the business, next year Mangkokku will venture outside the rice bowl concept, starting with drinks, desserts and packaged chili series. From there, Mangkokku will continue to launch other types of food and drink to become a complete culinary solution for Indonesians.

“We see the culinary business as a sector that can benefit from venture financing and the use of technology. Mangkokku has performed brilliantly even during the pandemic. This shows that their product has been well received by the public. Our financial support and business and our previous experience will help Mangkokku to prosper. Become a great company faster, “said Eko Kurniadi, partner at Alpha JWC Ventures.
