President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) decision to increase BPJS Health contributions generated strong criticism. Jokowi was asked to delay politics.

The Supreme Court (MA) had previously canceled the increase in BPJS Health contributions. However, Jokowi decided to raise it again by issuing a new Perpres.

Initially, the increase in BPJS Health contributions due to the Supreme Court was canceled in February 2020. Therefore, BPJS contributions returned to the original rates, namely:
to. Rs 25,500 for class 3
yes. Rp 51 thousand for class 2
C. IDR 80 thousand for class 1

Jokowi decided to continue increasing the rates. This was in line with the birth of Perpres Number 64 of 2020 regarding the Second Amendment to Perpres Number 82 of 2018 regarding Health Insurance. The following is the increase in BPJS health rates that will take effect on July 1, 2020:

1. Class I enrollment which is Rp 150 thousand per person per month, previously Rp 160 thousand.
2. Class II enrollment, which is Rp 100,000 per person, previously Rp 110 thousand.

For April, May and June 2020:
1. Class I is IDR 80 thousand

Jokowi reasoned to increase BPJS health rates, to maintain the quality and sustainability of health insurance.

“To maintain the quality and sustainability of the Health Insurance program, the Health Insurance financing policy, including the contribution policy, must be synergized with the national financial policy in a proportional and equitable manner and taking into account the judgment and the decision of the Supreme Court Decree Number 7 P / HUM / 2020 “, therefore, the consideration of Perpres 64/2020 as cited AFP, Wednesday (05/13).

Based on Jokowi’s decision, various groups made criticisms ranging from regional chiefs, observers to DPR politicians.
