Crazy! Turkish F-16 ‘Chase’ with Greek F-16

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The situation of Turkey and Greece in the Eastern Mediterranean is heating up. The two countries are involved in a conflict in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea over water gas.

The Ministry of Defense Twitter last weekend even reported how the Turkish F-16s clashed with the Greek F-16s. At that time, the Turkish air force’s radar system detected six Greek F-16s departing from the island of Crete for Cyprus.

“Turkish F-16 jets prevented the F-16 jets on the southwestern island of Cyprus … the plane was identified as belonging to Greece and removed from the area,” the Turkish Defense Ministry wrote as translated, quoted on Wednesday (02/09/2020).

“Our Navy and Air Force continue to work with limitless determination to protect our rights, interests and interests in the Eastern Mediterranean.”

In the report of the United States Geological Survey, the Eastern Mediterranean Sea has oil reserves of 1.7 billion barrels. Meanwhile, the gas is 3.5 trillion cubic meters.

Turkey sent its research vessel Oruc Reis from 10 August. The ship investigation off the island of Crete outraged Greece.

Greece claims that the territory is its waters. Greece submitted a note of objection informing the European Union, which it joins.

The tension eventually attracted several countries. Turkey was backed by the United States (US) and Italy, while Greece was backed by France.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he was ready for war to secure the region. “When the time comes to go to war, we will not hesitate to make sacrifices,” Erdogan stressed in his speech, quoted by AFP, on Monday (8/31/2020).
