Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Ministry of Health (Ministry of Health) declares vaccination COVID-19 in Indonesia it will start in the middle or second week of January 2021. This first phase of vaccination will have priority for healthcare workers (healthcare workers).
“We are quite optimistic that according to the schedule or assessment that has been prepared, vaccinations can be started in the second or third week of January 2021,” said Covid-19 Vaccine Ministry of Health spokesperson Siti Nadia Tramidzi , at an online press conference on Sunday (3/1).
Nadia said she was optimistic because she saw the development of clinical trials in Turkey and Brazil that showed quite good results. Furthermore, the clinical trials conducted by the University of Padjajaran were also positive, so he was sure that the vaccination schedule would not be delayed.
On another occasion, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin stated that the Covid-19 vaccination would be completed in 15 months or completed in March 2022 with a target of 181.5 million people.
The vaccination program will be divided into two periods, the first one, from January to April 2021, which will be delivered to 1.3 million health workers in 34 provinces and 17.4 million public officials.
So if the vaccine is shown to be safe to administer to the elderly group, they will also become a priority group.
“The next stage is the elderly population over 60 years of age, which is around 21.5 million,” Budi said some time ago.
Meanwhile, for the second vaccination period, from April 2021 to March 2022, it will be administered to vulnerable communities or people in areas with a high risk of transmission of 63.9 million people.
Lastly, the vaccine is injected to the general public using a cluster approach according to the availability of the vaccine. The goal is for 77.4 million people to receive the free vaccine.
In Indonesia, Budi aims to vaccinate 67-70 percent of the population or around 181 million people to create herd immunity or group immunity against the corona virus.
To achieve the goal of herd immunity, the government has prepared 426 million doses of vaccine for 181 million people. According to the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO), each resident will take two injections or two doses of the vaccine.
“We are preparing a buffer reserve of 15 percent, so the total we need is around 426 million doses of vaccine,” he said some time ago.
