The local government-affiliated news agency reported that the plane was African Express Airways, which flew from the capital Mogadishu to Baidoa, and then continued flights to Bardale. Until this news was revealed, it was unclear why the plane crashed.

However, former Somali Defense Minister Abdirashid Abdullahi Mohamed said he had contacted witnesses at the scene. According to an unidentified witness, the plane made a landing attempt.

However, the plane had to suddenly turn due to the blocking of wild animals on the runway. Then one of the wings of the plane caught fire.

In addition, Abdirashid also shared images showing the plane on fire, parts of the plane scattered across the scene, and the tail of the plane intact. Abdirashid also provided a list of six victims. However, the information cannot yet be confirmed.

In addition, a spokesman for the Ethiopian intermediary also claimed not to know about the accident. The Ethiopian government is known to have corridors in the Baidoa and Bardale regions for the African Union peacekeeping mission. Al-Shaabab’s rebel forces, known to be present at the scene, also declined to comment.
