Manchester –
COVID-19 cases are increasing in Europe right now. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is ready if the Premier League has to stop again.
After declining last summer, cases of transmission of the corona virus in Europe have recently increased. Many footballers who have been exposed recently, including Cristiano Ronaldo, are quite fit.
In the UK alone, corona cases have also started to rise, reaching over a million, according to a BBC Indonesia report. There are even studies that say that the number of deaths in this second wave will be higher.
Therefore, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a second national quarantine in the UK from Thursday (05/11) to December 2.
Boris still allows walking sports with high health protocols. Still, concerns remain over the possibility of the Premier League and other sporting competitions being postponed, such as last March.
Therefore, Guardiola as one of the Premier League club coaches is ready when the government then decides that the league will stop first. Because health is number one today.
“It is difficult. I know that the prime minister has decided this because the situation has deteriorated. This is happening in France, Germany and France,” Guardiola told the Mirror.
“The virus is still there. Maybe people will say that this time it is stronger. Looking at what is happening in today’s society, I don’t think football should worry.” he continued.
“So when we are allowed to play, we will play. But we also can’t distinguish ourselves from other groups of people who close restaurants and others.”
“I have no right to interfere here. I just want to be safe. I want myself, my family, my friends, all the citizens of England and Britain, everyone to be safe. But honestly, I don’t know what the future holds.”
“We all have to be careful, the fact is that the current conditions are difficult. If we have to stop, we will,” concluded Pep Guardiola.
The Premier League has been running for seven weeks now with Liverpool leading the standings with 16 points, two points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in second place.
