Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
President of the Board of Directors of the Pancasila Ideological Construction Agency (BPIP) Megawati soekarnoputri He recently made a statement criticizing “Jakarta is in ruins.”
Megawati, who is also the president of the PDIP, relayed the statement in reference to the Jakarta State University (UNJ) investigation that concluded the title Intellectual city. Jakarta, Megawati said, is not included in that category.
“The problem is that now I say that Jakarta is in ruins, so it was supposed to be city of intellect this can be done urbanism, master plan-nya, and so on, “Mega said in ‘National Dialogue: Pancasila Culture and National Strengthening of Indonesia in the Millennium Era’ which was broadcast online on Tuesday (11/10).
The research on which Megawati’s statement was based was the Study on the Ranking of Student Cities in Indonesia 2020, which was led by Senate President and Jakarta State University (UNJ) professor Hafid Abbas.
From the report document viewed CNNIndonesia.comThis research aims to determine the ranking of the city that deserves to be called the best student city in the country in 2020.
There are at least five research conclusion points, namely, the aspect of the existence of A-accredited state universities (PTN) and private universities (PTS) in a city; security aspects; cost of living aspects; aspects of job opportunities in a city; and aspects of the attractiveness of a city.
From these five variables, the research team obtained an overall score to determine the ranking of student cities in Indonesia. The first three are Semarang, Solo and Surabaya, then Denpasar.
DKI itself ranks sixth behind Malang, then Bandung and Yogyakarta.
“[Hasil penelitian] We don’t call it messy or anything, no. However, the facts show that Jakarta is number six in all Indonesian cities according to research in 2020, “Hafid Abbas said when contacted. CNNIndonesia.com, Wednesday (11/11).
Detailed conclusions by variable
This study uses the research object of 10 Indonesian cities, namely Medan, DKI Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Solo, Surabaya, Malang, Yogyakarta, Denpasar and Makassar to determine the ideal classification of ‘Student Cities’.
The researchers conducted a ranking on a number of cities that have at least three A-accredited universities, or that have national and international reputations.
Specifically for the safety variable, the researchers concluded that DKI was in a distended position, also known as the most vulnerable. The study found that, on average, every month throughout 2019 there were 2,718 criminal cases. Meanwhile, Semarang City shows the lowest crime propensity number with an average of 19 crime cases per month.

“Jakarta because it is a very big city, megacity, so the vulnerability is greater than in a small town. “The safest thing in this study is Semarang because there are only 19 criminal cases a month, if in Jakarta every 16 minutes there is a criminal case,” Hafid Abbas said.
Meanwhile, from the first aspect, namely the existence of A-accredited PT in a city, Jakarta is still behind Surabaya, which ranks first.
In fact, Jakarta is at the top of the cost of living variable, where the average monthly cost of living is 7.5 million rupees. The next positions are Surabaya (Rp. 6.1 million) and Makassar (Rp. 5.8 million).
The cheapest city is Solo (IDR 3.5 million) or twice lower than Jakarta.
In the fourth aspect, that is, job opportunities in a city, Jakarta ranks third, losing to Yogyakarta and Surabaya.
On the last variable, the attractiveness of a city, Surabaya is at the top of the ranking followed by Bandung and Denpasar.
In his comments for the event, Mega had the opportunity to poke fun at DKI Jakarta when it became a chaotic city, referring to the results of the UNJ team’s investigation.
The results of the UNJ investigation are also presented in the ‘National Dialogue: Pancasila Culture and National Strengthening of Indonesia in the Millennium Era’ which was broadcast online yesterday Tuesday (11/10).
Responding to Mega’s statement, Hafid explained once again that the results of his study had nothing to do with the government of the ‘disorderly’ city.
“We don’t say messy or anything, no. But the facts show that Jakarta is number six in all Indonesian cities according to the 2020 investigation,” Hafid explained.
Hafid also did not question Mega’s statement, but clearly reminded him that his research studies were purely scientific and were not intended to offend politics.
“It is up to people to give meaning to these findings, just to be free, but that is out of scientific interest,” Hafid concluded.
