TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -Several Transjakarta bus stops along Jalan MH Thamrin in central Jakarta were set on fire on Thursday, October 8, 2020, after a chaotic demonstration against the Job Creation Act.
It is suspected that the arson was the consequence of a riot over the rejection of the Employment Creation Law that occurred this afternoon in the area of the statue of the horse Arjuna Wiwaha.
So far, it is not known who carried out the fire. According to Tempo’s observations, 4 shelters were set on fire, namely Sarinah Transjakarta bus stop, Hotel Indonesia roundabout, Tosari Baru and Tosari ICBC.

The fire was seen still burning until 18:41 WIB at the Tosari Baru bus stop. The worst condition occurred at the HI Roundabout Transjakarta bus stop, where the entire contents of the stop were eaten by the red rooster. When the situation was relatively auspicious, firefighters were seen extinguishing the flames that still burned at several of these bus stops.
Riot at the demonstration against the Job Creation Law began to break out at 2:19 p.m. WIB this morning in the area of the Arjuna Wiwaha Horse Statue. At that moment, a group of young men who did not wear their attributes began to stone the police with plastic bottles and stones. The students who participated in the demonstration appeared to be trying to calm the masses and did not call for any act of anarchy.
Unfortunately, the rogue onkum did not accept it. The youth group damaged public facilities there. As the afternoon entered, the police pushed the masses back, causing them to disperse to various locations.
In addition to along Jalan MH Thanrin, riots are also known to have occurred in the Betel Garden area towards Tugu Tani, Tanah Abang and various other locations in central Jakarta.
At 8:46 p.m. WIB, conditions at the HI roundabout were favorable. Governor Anies Baswedan along with Kapolda Metro Jaya and Pangdam Jaya had arrived there.
