Christmas morning explosion in Nashville, of warning messages to victims

NASHVILLE, KOMPAS.com – An explosion shook downtown Nashville, Tennessee, United States (USA) on Christmas morning, Friday (12/25/2020).

The Nashville Metro Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the incident.

Local officials believe the explosion was an intentional act.

  • Early Friday morning, the sound of gunfire was heard in downtown Nashville.
  • Police officers responded to reports of the shooting. They then found a suspicious van in the area, which was parked outside 166 2nd Avenue North at 5:30 a.m. local time.
  • The truck then broadcasts a warning message to leave the area.
  • According to Metro Police Chief John Drake, a warning message was heard prior to the explosion. The message contained urging local residents to evacuate because an explosion would occur 15 minutes later.
  • Officers called in a team of bomb disposal specialists and went door-to-door to evacuate people and divert them from the area.
  • A few minutes later, the truck exploded at 6.30 am local time outside the AT&T building. A police officer was shot down by the force of the blast, according to official reports.
  • As a result of the explosion, three civilians were injured and hospitalized. According to officials, his condition is stable.
  • Drake confirmed that officers found the remains near the scene of the blast. Now the police are testing whether it really is a human body.
  • Nashville Mayor John Cooper said the explosion was caused by an intentional bomb. The explosion also damaged at least 20 surrounding buildings.
