The course of the match
First round:
The match begins when each team has a hard time breaking the defenses of the others. Still, Liverpool played more aggressively and kept trying to put pressure on Chelsea. In the 12th minute, Georginio Wijnaldum tried his luck with a long-range shot. However, it is not yet on target.
Liverpool had a very good chance in the 13th minute. Mohamed Salah tries to catch the ball that goes wide and then Kepa Arrizabalaga is pursued. Salah received the ball first and sent a pass to the face of the empty Chelsea goal. Unfortunately, Roberto Firmino failed to turn Salah’s pass into a goal because Andreas Christensen grabbed it hard.
In the 32nd minute, Chelsea threatens Liverpool’s goal. Timo Werner managed to escape and found a gap between the encirclement of the Reds players. It’s just that, kicking with the left foot still slightly deflected to the left side of Liverpool’s goal.
Two minutes later, it was Liverpool’s turn to have the opportunity. Virgil van Dijk released the bait which was followed by Salah. However, when Salah sent the ball into the Chelsea penalty area, none of his teammates fooled the round skin.
The Blues worked well together in the 37th minute when N’Golo Kante gave Kai Havertz a deep pass and then the ball was passed to Werner. However, Havertz was already in an offside position which caused this opportunity to be canceled.
At the end of the first half, Chelsea had to play with 10 people. This is because Christensen received a red card after stopping Sadio Mane by hugging and dropping the Senegalese winger. The first part ended with the score 0-0.
