China reveal the reason why the president Xi Jinping has not congratulated Joe biden as president-elect of the United States.
China says the results of the 2020 US presidential vote have yet to be determined.
China, along with several major countries, including Russia and Mexico, have yet to congratulate Biden. Beijing said it had “noticed that Biden declared himself the winner of the presidential election.”
“We understand that the election results will be determined in accordance with the laws and procedures of the United States,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin told reporters at a regular briefing on Monday.
“We hope the new US government can meet with China,” he said, quoted by AFP.
The United States under the Trump administration has been marked by a trade war and increasingly cold relations with China. The two superpowers have clashed on various fronts, with the United States accusing China of the Covid-19 pandemic and the human rights record in Xinjiang and Hong Kong.
While many state leaders have congratulated Biden-Harris, President Donald Trump does not appear to have given up and has called for various demands.
However, some observers previously thought that China would be happier if Trump won the presidential election again.
Trump’s victory is seen as very beneficial to China. Because America’s leadership under Trump is seen as reducing competition from superpowers.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is known to be trying to strengthen China’s rise as a superpower.
According to observers, Beijing is concerned that Biden is likely to renew US leadership in the field of human rights, putting pressure on China on Uighurs, Tibet and freedom issues in Hong Kong.
“Biden will probably be tougher than Trump on human rights issues in Xinjiang and Tibet,” said Bucknell University political and international relations observer Zhu Zhiqun.
Trump himself refused to admit defeat, accusing the Democrats of winning by cheating.
“Since when does Lamestream Media determine who our next president is?” Trump tweeted on Sunday.
