Franco Morbidelli had a brilliant performance in MotoGP Teruel 2020. He won and managed to beat the Suzuki duo, Alex Rins and Joan Mir.
At the Aragon MotorLand Circuit on Sunday (10/25), the Petronas Yamaha SRT rider completed 23 laps with a record time of 41 minutes 47.652 seconds. Rins followed with a difference of 2,205 seconds followed by Mir, who was 5,376 seconds behind the champion.
These results put Morbidelli in fourth place in the standings with 112 points. He is still 25 points behind Mir, increasingly solid at the top of the standings. Fabio Quartararo is second with 123 points, followed by Maverick Vinales with 118 points.
The course of the race
MOTOGP TERUEL BEGINS! Takaaki Nakagami led the race, but crashed immediately early in the race. Franco Morbidelli took the leadership position, followed by Alex Rins, Johann Zarco and Maverick Vinales.
Meanwhile, Jack Miller and Brad Binder also crashed on the first lap. Joan Mir, leader of the 2020 MotoGP classification, shot from 12 to 5, overtaking Fabio Quartararo, who was stuck in 6th place.
With 20 laps to go, the situation in the top five has not changed. But Alex Márquez came in in sixth place, bringing Quartararo to seventh. On lap five, Andrea Dovizioso also progressed slowly and came in 12th after starting 17th.
Mir passed Viñales on lap six, followed by Márquez. Viñales also fell to sixth place. Mir is fourth and Márquez fifth. Morbidelli continued on, followed by Rins. Zarco is a little further behind, but still third.
The race left 13 laps and there was a gap between the front row drivers. Rins in the second is about 2.1 seconds behind Zarco in the third, and Márquez in the fifth is 2.5 seconds behind Viñales in the sixth.
Mir beat the top three on lap 12! Alex Márquez also followed to fourth, Zarco also slipped to fifth. Morbidelli now starts to pull away, 0.6 seconds ahead of Rins. Quartararo dropped to ninth and Dovizioso advanced to eleventh.
With 11 laps remaining, Quartararo worked his way up to eighth place. Viñales is in front of him. Meanwhile, Pol Espargaró has occupied the sixth position.
Clash of Alex Marquez! In the remaining 10 laps, he fell into turn two. Marc Márquez’s younger brother was unable to continue his positive performance at MotorLand Aragon. With 9 laps remaining, Quartararo is seventh. Dovizioso advanced again to ninth position.
Oh! Quartararo was overtaken by Miguel Oliveira with 8 laps to go, the French driver fell back to eighth position. The first three positions are still Morbidelli, Rins and Mir. In the remaining 7 laps, Dovizioso even slipped to 12th place. It doesn’t look like a good day for the Ducati rider.
Five more laps and Morbidelli continues to pull away from Rins. Their difference has become 1 second. Meanwhile, Viñales was overtaken by Oliveira, who moved up to sixth place.
With three laps remaining, Morbidelli was 1.2 seconds ahead of Rins, who was 2.6 seconds ahead of Mir. The gap between the top three. Pol Espargaró followed in fourth place, followed by Zarco and Oliveira.
The race left two more laps and the number of riders decreased. This time it was Aleix Espargaró who had to finish the race first. There seems to be a problem with the bike.
On the last lap, Morbidelli held tight to the front. It seems that he will win his second in MotoGP 2020, after the San Marino MotoGP.
FINIS! Morbidelli became the winner of MotoGP Teruel 2020. Rins and Mir followed in third place. Espargaró, Zarco, Oliveira, Viñales, Quartararo, Iker Lecuona and Danilo Petrucci complete positions 4 to 10. While Dovizioso finished 13th.
