Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The revision of the Bank of Indonesia (BI) Law is in sight. The DPR RI Body of Legislation (Baleg) is drafting a revised draft of the Act and will discuss it soon.
In its presentation this afternoon, the Baleg Expert Team said that in this bill, several old articles would be removed and refined with new ones. One of them is article 43, which will be perfected.
Article 43 contains about the BI Board of Governors (RDG) which is held every month. If previously the RDG only did BI, the Government will participate in this Bill.
“Related to the RDG, at least once a month, to set the general monetary policy attended by one or more finance ministers and finance ministers representing the government,” the team of experts said on Monday (31 / 8/2020).
The government will not only participate in BI’s monthly RDG, but also has the right to vote to make decisions on the results of the meeting.
“Those who represent the government with the right to speak and vote,” he said.
In addition, some of those that will be included in this bill are those related to the transfer of the banking supervisory authority to BI, which is currently in charge of the Financial Services Authority (OJK). The return of this authority will take place no later than December 31, 2023.
Then, also in this bill, the DPR drafted a monetary council consisting of 5 members, namely the Minister of Finance as President, Minister of Economy, Governor of Bank of Indonesia, Senior Vice President Bi and the Board of OJK Commissioners.
Ahmad Baidhowi, deputy director of the Baleg DPR, said today that a meeting was held to draw up a temporary draft. And that is what the experts do.
“So before the inaugural AT presentation meeting [Tenaga Ahli] related to the revision of the BI Law. Subsequently, Baleg will prepare the academic manuscript and the bill. One of them is that the meaning of independence should be interpreted within the framework of the Republic of Indonesia, not as freely and independently as possible. Don’t be like a country within another country. But there is still a long way to go in preparation, “Ahmad told CNBC Indonesia.
According to Ahmad, the DPR proposed the revision of the BI Law. Later, he continued, the government will formulate a DIM or List of Inventory of Problems to respond to the formulation of the bill.
