JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – The Minister of Youth and Sports, Zainudin Amali, said that the president of the World Badminton Federation apologized to President Joko Widodo for the incident that caused the Indonesian badminton team not to participate in the tournament All England.

Amali explained that the BWF president expressed that he could understand and feel the disappointment and frustration of the entire Indonesian Badminton National Team.

“So, for the incident that made us uncomfortable, the president of BWF conveyed an apology to President Jokowi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, PBSI and all badminton stakeholders in the country,” Amali said.

BWF also stated that they would use information from the All England incident to improve the implementation of the upcoming badminton tournament.

“In fact, now the situation is in the condition of the Covid-19 pandemic, so in the future we must be more prepared and this incident in All of England is a very valuable lesson,” Amali said.

It is known that the Indonesian badminton team was forced to withdraw from the All England tournament after contacting a person during a plane trip from Istanbul to Birmingham, England. So the team had to carry out isolation until March 23 by the British health authorities.

However, due to pressure from the Indonesian government, the team was able to return to Indonesia early, that is, on March 21, after the first swab test was carried out and the entire team tested negative.
