Leicester –
Bruno Fernandes made an important note when Manchester United took on Leicester City. A record that only Robert Lewandowski and Lionel Messi can break this year. What is that?
Fernandes started again when MU visited King Power Stadium, on Saturday (12/26/2020) WIB afternoon. Needing three points, MU immediately stepped on the accelerator from the first minutes and opened the scoring in the 23rd minute through Marcus Rashford.
Harvey Barnes had equalized in the 31st minute. After a 1-1 draw in the first half, it took MU until 79 minutes to regain the lead thanks to a strong shot from Fernandes, before Axel Tuanzebe’s own goal make it 2-2.
Although he didn’t get MU to win, Fernandes proved that he was the spirit of MU’s current game. Of course, Fernandes has scored 10 goals this season, being the top scorer for the Red Devils.
A total of 10 goals made Fernandes the first Portuguese footballer to reach double-digit goals in the Premier League, after Cristiano Ronaldo in 2008/2009.
Not only did he score 10 goals, Fernandes also donated six assists. That means that Fernandes participated in the presence of 16 goals out of a total of 30 goals from MU! Since his debut last January, Fernandes has provided 31 goals to Manchester United in 28 games.
As reported by talkSPORT, Fernandes is one goal ahead of Ronaldo in goal participation statistics in Europe’s top five leagues. Fernandes’ good record only lost to Lionel Messi with 34 goals and Robert Lewandowski with 35 goals.
“I am very happy when everyone in the locker room looks disappointed and promises to do better. You can make a winning mentality in this team and we are not very happy to score a single point,” Bruno Fernandes said after the match quoted by Sportskeeda.
Manchester United failed to get anywhere near the top of the standings because they only had 27 points in fourth place.
