KOMPAS.com – Several people in almost all of Indonesia pay attention to the hot weather that has occurred recently.
High temperatures are not only felt during the day, but also at night.
The head of Dissemination of Information on Climate and Air Quality of the Agency of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) Hary Tirto Djatmiko said that the monitoring of BMKG showed an increase in the highest daytime temperatures in recent days.
“(The hot weather that occurs) is especially felt in Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara,” Hary said when contacted. Kompas.com, Sunday (11/15/2020).
Hary added that on November 12, 2020, temperatures of over 36 degrees Celsius were recorded in Bima, Sabu, and Sumbawa, with the highest temperature observed at Sultan Muhammad Salahudin Airport, Bima, with a temperature of 37.2 degrees Celsius. .
“However, this record temperature is not a large deviation from the average maximum climatic temperature in this region, it is still within its range of variability in November,” he said.

Cause of hot weather
He explained that the maximum temperature that rises in a few days can at least be caused by several things.
For one thing, in November, the position of the sun’s apparent motion was just over the island of Java on its way to latitude 23 south after leaving the equator.
The apparent position of the Sun over the island of Java will occur twice, in November and April.
“So that the maximum temperature peaks from Java to NTT occur around these months,” he said.
In addition, sunny weather also causes optimal direct sunlight exposure to the surface, so that the surface temperature warms up.
Meanwhile, sunny weather in Jakarta over the past two days is linked to the development of tropical cyclone VAMCO in the South China Sea, which is attracting air masses and clouds.
This phenomenon causes the clouds to move away from the southern part of Indonesia so the weather tends to be brighter.

How long does the heat occur?
Hary estimates that the warm weather will continue for the next few days.
“Within the next 1-3 days, the trend is relatively back to normal,” Hary said.
Previously, the BMKG had denied that Indonesia was experiencing a heat wave.
This statement came after news circulated through the WhatsApp application that Indonesia was being hit by a heat wave.
