DIY NEWS – The government has increased the budget for social protection in the Handling COVID-19 and National Economic Recovery (PCPEN) program from Rp.203.9 billion to Rp242 billion by reallocating the budget to programs that have not been carried out smoothly.
This means that the budget has increased by around 38 trillion rupees.
“Because there are still many middle and lower classes that need help,” said Executive Secretary I of the PCPEN Committee, Raden Pardede, as quoted by Antara, on Wednesday, September 23, 2020.
According to him, until September 16, 2020, spending on social protection reached Rp.134.45 trillion or 60.6 percent of the ceiling of Rp.203.9 trillion and until the end of this year it increased to Rp. .242 billion.

He explained that spending on social protection is directed at programs that have been implemented so far, including several new programs such as salary subsidies, subsidized salaries for honorary teachers, subsidized internet quotas, extension of electricity discounts and additional revolving funds (LPDB) .
The government also provides support to MSMEs, mainly Presidential Productive Assistance for microenterprises.

With the increase in spending on social protection for the lower middle class, they are expected to survive amid the COVID-19 pandemic and use this assistance for consumption, especially for essential needs.
