Professor Amin Soebandrio, director of the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology, told VOA Indonesia – Suara.net.com – that the use of blood plasma is only specific for patients who have been positively infected, with severe or severe conditions.

He explained that the patients who had recovered from Covid-19 had antibodies in their blood plasma. This blood plasma is taken to be treated and administered to patients with serious conditions, to strengthen their antibodies and improve the recovery process.
However, Prof. Amin said that a strict examination should be done for potential recipients of blood plasma donors. That is, the use of blood plasma must be in accordance with the form of administration, dosage, etc.
According to him, the administration of blood plasma to patients still suffering from Covid-19 should still follow the standard treatment that is being administered. He added that administering this blood plasma only speeds healing because the virus is targeted and can be killed by the antibodies it provides.
Professor Amin further explained that, in principle, the process of taking a blood plasma donor is almost the same as that of a blood donor. At first 10 cc of blood were taken to verify the presence or absence of infection so that this sample is completely safe.
Covid-19 survivors who donated blood plasma, Amin said, had to meet various requirements, both general health, checking hemoglobin (hb), etc. to make sure there were no corona viruses or other bacteria.
If everything is fine and meets the criteria, then take a plasma or called plasmapheresis. Plasmapheresis is the collection, treatment, and return or exchange of blood plasma or its components to and from the bloodstream.
