Bio Farma said it received funding from a humanitarian organization owned by the founder of Microsoft. Bill gates, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to find polio vaccine most recent (nOPV).
Bio Farma director Honesti Basyir said his party is currently processing the polio vaccine at the World Health Organization (WHO) to obtain Emergency Use List (EUL) permits.
“They provide sponsorship to the biopharmacy to find the latest polio vaccine and are currently in the works at WHO on a kind of EUL that is similar to the Emergency Use Authorization (USA),” Honesti said at a virtual conference, the Wednesday (10/21).
Honesti also said that Bio Farma is the only vaccine manufacturer that can produce this latest polio vaccine.
Research on the latest generation of polio vaccine (nOPV) includes vaccine technology development, clinical trials, stages 1-3, to the production process.
“Bio Farma is also the only vaccine company that can produce this latest polio vaccine,” Honesti said.
In fact, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has contributed to providing solutions for children’s health in Indonesia.
Earlier, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani at the 2018 IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meeting, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation said they would assist in research into State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) through Bio Farma for the vaccine development.
The goal is that the related vaccine types are not just produced by Western countries. Indonesia is expected to have the ability to become a world-class player in the field of vaccine production.
