jpnn.com, JAKARTA – Covid-19 Management Task Force expert team member Dewi Nur Aisyah assessed that a long vacation could be one of the causes of the increasing trend of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia in the last week of August 2020.
The increasing trend of Covid-19 cases is known to have occurred after Indonesia took a long vacation from August 16-22, 2020.
Dewi revealed that during the online discussion ‘Covid-19 in Numbers’ broadcast on BNPB Indonesia’s YouTube account, on Wednesday (2/9).
“Yes, it could be. We also see the effect of long vacations in increasing the number of cases, especially in Java,” Dewi said.
According to him, community mobility is quite high during the holidays, especially in Java. The mobility of people actually increases the risk of transmission of Covid-19.
“Because we see a fairly high increase in mobility in Java, right, it is also very high, especially yesterday’s holidays, long vacations. We see that the mobility of the population will definitely increase the risk of transmission,” he said.
Aside from the holidays, Dewi said, another factor increasing the trend of Covid-19 cases is based on transmission from existing clusters. For example, streaming on the pesantren cluster in East Java.
“In East Java, there is also an increase in pesantren, in West Java there is the industrial cluster. This is the one with a sufficiently high number of cases in several provinces,” he explained.
