TERUSAN SUEZ, KOMPAS.TV – An interesting fact was revealed by a giant freighter that ran aground and was trapped in the Suez Canal, Egypt since last Tuesday (3/23/2021). The Associated Press reported, before crossing the important channel for world commercial traffic, the Ever Given freighter made an intricate route that formed a controversial pattern in the Red Sea.

According to a digital reconstruction provided by maritime tracking service VesselFinder, the Ever Given freighter turns repeatedly and sails with a suggestive final pattern resembling male genitalia in the Red Sea before entering the Suez Canal. Through its website, VesselFinder has released a video simulation of the movement path of the Ever Given freighter in the Red Sea.

It was not uncommon for ships to wander aimlessly as they waited their turn to enter the narrow canal that was the main artery of Asian-European trade.

There is still no official comment from concerned parties as to whether the formation of this pattern is intentional or just a coincidence. However, a VesselFinder spokesperson, quoted in Vice, indicating that the ship’s movement data is accurate.

Meanwhile, the closure of the Suez Canal due to the sinking of the Ever Given ship will have a major impact on world trade. At least 150 ships were trapped and forced to wait their turn to cross the Suez Canal.
