The Chairman of the Health Management Division of the COVID-19 Management Working Group, Prof. Akmal Taher, resigned from his position. Before declaring his resignation, Akmal had apparently attended a meeting with the coordinating minister for Maritime Affairs and Investments, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
The spokeswoman for the Ministry of Coordination of Maritime Affairs and Investments, Jodi Mahardi, said that Luhut, as vice chair of the Policy Committee for the Control of COVID-19 and the National Economic Recovery, held a joint meeting with the COVID-19 Working Group and the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes). At the meeting, Akmal was present to represent the Chairman of the COVID-19 Working Group, Doni Monardo.
“In fact, at the meeting, Pak Luhut reminded the Working Group, which was represented by Prof. Akmal and the Ministry of Health which was represented by Special Personnel,” Jodi said when contacted on Sunday (9/27/ 2020).
Jodi didn’t explain exactly what Akmal had said at the meeting, so Luhut reminded her. According to Jodi, Luhut reminded Akmal that any policy that was adopted had to be consulted first.
“So before we launch the Clinical Treatment Guidelines for COVID-19, we must first consult with various professional medical associations,” he said.
Still, Jodi dismissed the idea that Luhut and Akmal Taher disagreed. “I don’t think there is a difference in understanding,” he said.

It was previously reported that Akmal Taher, Head of the Health Management of the COVID-19 Task Force, said he would resign from his position. Akmal’s resignation was verbally relayed to the Chief of the COVID-19 Task Force, Doni Monardo.
“(He verbally resigned) last night,” Doni told reporters on Friday (9/25).
In the context of his resignation, Akmal Taher spoke about his importance tracking (Monitoring and tests (test) COVID-19. He said he would talk about that and the important role of health centers related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“So he’s been quitting for the moment, but I’ll stick with it, for whatever activity, for me, tracking, testing, is absolutely added,” Akmal said, in a virtual discussion, on Saturday (9/26).
“And I really think it should be made through the puskesmas so I’ll go back and forth by the way that’s all, wherever there are activities, I have the opportunity to do that work, because I think that’s what we haven’t done yet ”, he added.
