JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The president of the General Electoral Commission (KPU) of the South Sulawesi province (Sulsel), Faisal Amir, tested positive for Covid-19.

The news was confirmed by KPU Commissioner Viryan Azis by completing an online discussion titled Pilkada Campaign Amid Corona Pandemic, Saturday (19/9/2020).

According to Viryan, Faisal Amir had a car with the president of the Indonesian KPU, Arief Budiman, during a visit to Makassar.

“Yes. In fact, we got the news. It (the broadcast) may have occurred because Mas Arief and the South Sulawesi KPU president were in a car while in Makassar,” Viryan said.

“Our investigation is about who infected whom. Is it from Mas Arief to Pak Faisal or from Pak Faisal to Mas Arief,” he said.

In addition to Makassar, Arief Budiman also visited Depok City (West Java) to coordinate the Pilkada 2020, before testing positive for Covid-19.

However, Viryan emphasized that the health protocol has been carried out in all KPU activities. So at least the Covid-19 test with Quick test always done.

Additionally, Viryan said, Arief is currently a Covid-19 Symptom Free (OTG) person.

“Pak Arif OTG. His body is healthy, there are no major complaints. However, we remain vigilant,” Viryan said.

According to Viryan, Arief is currently in independent isolation at the official residence of the KPU president. All KPU coordination activities in the context of Pilkada 2020 are carried out online.

“Our activities continue as usual,” Viryan said.

“If we use video call, So because we are a complex, we can still communicate with quite a distance, “he said.

Previously, Arief Budiman announced that he had been confirmed positive for Covid-19. This was discovered after Arief underwent a PCR test or swab test on Thursday (9/17/2020).
