Becoming the new head of BNI, Royke Tumilaar, wants to synergize BNI-Mandiri

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The new CEO of PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, Royke Tumilaar, revealed the strategy that will be carried out under the new management. Royke previously served as Chairman and Director of PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk (BMRI).

In a press conference with online media teams, Royke said that one of the strategies that will be strengthened first is in the corporate credit segment. Although, he has yet to reveal his goal in detail.

However, Royke assessed that the demand for corporate credit would continue to grow. The reason is that Indonesia is currently still aggressively building a number of infrastructure projects and this is expected to be one of those that will strengthen BNI’s business in the future.


“We want to quickly synergize Bank Mandiri and BNI and together be able to develop Indonesia. There are still many infrastructure projects that Bank Mandiri and BNI have to support. Infrastructure will also be dominant in future credit growth,” said the former. General Director of Treasury, Financial Institutions and Management of Special Assets Bank Mandiri, Wednesday (2/9/2020).

Not only that, but BNI is also expected to become a bank with international commercial coverage, which includes being a benchmark bank and the main correspondent for institutions, investors and foreign banks.

To become such a bank, corporate action is needed to increase BNI’s assets, both organic and inorganic, so that the acceleration to become a global bank can be done quickly.

“For that, we request the support of all BNI staff, all stakeholders, including colleagues, in order to ensure our performance so that it can meet the expectations of all parties, including shareholders,” he said.

Elected at BNI’s Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders on September 2, 2020, Royke Tumilaar is an experienced banker who spent 11 years at Bank Dagang Negara and 21 years at Bank Mandiri.

Previously, the banker born in 1964 was Chairman and CEO of Bank Mandiri (Persero) as stipulated in the Bank Mandiri EGMS, Monday (9/12/2019).

In terms of performance, BBNI’s net profit fell 41.6% in the first half of 2020, to Rs 4.46 trillion compared to the same period last year, which was recorded at Rs 7.63 trillion. .

Earlier, BNI management explained that the decline in earnings was due to credit restructuring and deterioration in asset quality due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

Meanwhile, Bank Mandiri posted a consolidated net profit during the first half of 2020 of IDR 10.29 trillion, or a drop of 23.95% from the first half of 2019, which was IDR 13.53 trillion.

Meanwhile, the net profit of the parent entity combined with the non-controlling stakes of Bank Mandiri reached 10.55 trillion IDR, 24.53% less than in the same period of the previous year 13.98 trillion IDR.
