United States President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill Biden, mourn the death of a police officer after being attacked by a man in the Capitol building on Friday (2/4) local time. The attack also injured another policeman and he is now being treated in hospital.

“Jill and I are saddened by the brutal attack on a security checkpoint in the United States Capitol area, which killed Capitol Police officer William Evans and left other officers fighting for their lives,” Biden said in a statement. .
Biden also extended “his deepest condolences to Officer Evans’s family, and to all those who mourn his loss.” Biden added that he had ordered the White House flag to be lowered to half mast.
The deadly incident is known to have occurred when a man crashed a blue sedan into two Capitol Building police officers on Friday (2/4) around 1:00 pm local time.
The incident left a police officer dead and another police officer injured. The assailant himself was shot dead by authorities when he exited the vehicle with a knife in his hand. He died in the hospital around 1:30 p.m.
According to the BBC, citing two law enforcement sources involved in the investigation of this incident, the perpetrator of the attack on the Capitol building was Noah Green, a 25-year-old man from Indiana. As a result of this incident, the entire area of the Capitol Building was closed, where not all employees are allowed to leave and enter. However, hours later, the lockdown was lifted after officers confirmed there were no other threats.
