Brennan said she did not know who was guilty of Fakhrizadeh’s murder. However, Tehran pointed the finger at Israel. (Read: Meeting Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, ‘Father of Iran’s Nuclear Bombs’ assassinated)
“This is a criminal and very reckless act. It risks deadly retaliation and a new chapter in the regional conflict,” Brennan said in a series of cheep, as cited AFP, Saturday (11/28/2020).
“I don’t know if the foreign government allowed or carried out the assassination of Fakhrizadeh,” he continued.
“Such acts of state-sponsored terrorism would constitute a flagrant violation of international law and would encourage more governments to carry out deadly attacks against foreign officials,” he added.
Brennan pointed out that Fakhrizadeh was not a legally designated terrorist, nor was he a member of al-Qaeda or the ISIS group. (Also read: Israel is accused of being the mastermind behind the assassination of Iran’s nuclear scientists)
However, the former CIA chief, who is a harsh critic of President Donald Trump, urged Tehran to “resist the urge to retaliate” and await the return of responsible American leadership to the world stage. Brennan’s comments concerned the winner of the November 3 US presidential election; Joe Biden, who will replace Trump on January 20.
Brennan was a CIA director from 2013 to 2017, under the administrations of President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.
Brennan was not involved in Biden’s campaign team and was not involved in Biden’s preparations for the presidency on January 20.
But earlier this week, Biden named Brennan’s former CIA deputy Avril Haines as his director of national intelligence.
