United Nations or UN calls on all parts of the Middle East region to exercise restraint and stay away from the escalation following the assassination of nuclear scientists Iran Mohsen Fakhrizadeh. Mohsen Fakhrizadeh is known to be an Iranian nuclear physicist and head of the research and innovation center of the Iranian Ministry of Defense.
Fakhrizadeh was killed after an explosives-laden car exploded near his vehicle on Friday around 2:30 p.m. local time, Iran’s defense minister confirmed. He was taken to the hospital, but his life was not saved due to the injuries he sustained.
“We have seen reports that an Iranian nuclear scientist has been killed near Tehran today. We urge (all parties) to exercise restraint and the need to avoid any action that could lead to escalating tensions in the region.” said the deputy spokesman for the Secretary-General. UN, Farhan Haq, quoted from Sputnik, Saturday (11/28/2020).(Also read: Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh dies)
Iranian officials attribute Fakhrizadeh’s murder to Israel, as Foreign Minister Javad Zarif hinted on his Twitter that there were serious indications of Israel’s role in the scientist’s murder. The allegations may be partly related to the fact that at a 2018 press conference, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu named Fakhrizadeh among the people he considers most dangerous to the Zionist state when speaking of the so-called “nuclear archive of Iran”.
Zarif also called on the international community to end its “double standards” and condemn the murder of Fakhrizadeh.(Also read: Israel is accused of being the mastermind behind the assassination of Iran’s nuclear scientists)
Iran’s Supreme Spiritual Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has vowed to take revenge for the murder of the top scientist. He also sided with Zarif in blaming Israel for his murder.
