The director of the Public Association for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments in the Occupied Territories of Azerbaijan, Faig Ismayilov, said that an official of the ANAS Institute of Law and Human Rights, registered 215 historical and cultural monuments damaged in Shusha, 140 in Aghdam, 93 in Jabrayil and Khojavend respectively, Kalbajar. 91, Lachin district 74, Gubadly and Fuzuli 71, Zangilan 56 and Khojaly 28 historical and cultural monuments.
According to Ismayilov, among the 903 officially registered monuments in the region there are monuments that have local, regional and international importance. There are also 1,647 monuments in the area that are not officially registered.
Ismayilov emphasized that the damage to Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage by Armenians abroad is estimated at billions of dollars. He also said that Armenians placed khachkars (carved stones) in the occupied territories, Armenian tombstones and Albanian architectural monuments.
