JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV– Former Indonesian women’s national team volleyball athlete Aprilia Manganang has been confirmed as male. The Chief of Staff of the Army (KSAD), General Andika Perkasa, transmitted guarantees of the results of the examination carried out by the health team at the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital, Jakarta.
“Because the examination at Manado Hospital was limited, I finally called him to Jakarta. Aprilia is a member of Kops Wanita (Kowad) Army Second Sergeant, after retiring as a volleyball athlete. Aprilia was born in Tahuna, North Sulawesi on April 27, 1992 and began her career as a professional volleyball athlete in 2011 when she joined the Alco Bandung team. Since then, Aprilia Manganang has won the Proliga competition four times.
The Aprilia case is not the first in the world of athletes in the country. Previously there was Karnah Sukarta Wirasaputra, who was known for her achievements in the javelin field and had participated in the 1958 Tokyo Olympics.
However, on December 30, 1981, Karnah experienced an unusual event. Overnight he suddenly turned into a child. Karnah, who was born in Ciamis, West Java, on August 1, 1940, later changed her name to Iwan Setiawan Setiadihardja Wirasaputra.
