Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The New Year is not a fun time for Adobe and Flash Player. But the surprising thing is that Apple founder Steve Jobs predicted the downfall of Flash Players long before.
Previously, Adobe had confirmed that it would not support Flash Players as of December 31, 2020. Not only that, Adobe will also block content in Flash Players as of January 12, 2021.
In reality, this decision has been planned by Adobe since 2017. The company plans to phase out plug-in support for Flash by the end of 2020.
But long before that, around 2010, the late Steve Jobs had criticized Adobe for nothing. At the time, he was CEO of Apple and said he would not allow Adobe Systems Flash Players to get into the iPhone.
According to him, Flash Players is not a technology for the future. He said if Flash was made in the PC age, for PC and mouse, not for mobile devices.
“New open standards in the mobile age, like HTML 5, will triumph on mobile devices (and also on PCs),” Jobs said at the time, quoted by CNet, on Monday (1/4/2021).
Jobs advises Adobe to focus on creating better HTMS5 tools for the future and to no longer criticize Apple for leaving the past behind.
Additionally, Jobs claimed that Flash drains the battery, does not support multi-touch interfaces, exists a security risk, and is unstable. It claims that the Mac error is caused by Flash.
Since then, the relationship between Apple and Adobe has never improved. Apple device users have been using a browser without Flash for the past few years.
Other than that, neither the iPhone, iPad, nor iPod ever supported Flash. Macs have been transitioning since 2010, when Flash was no longer available for pre-installation.
