Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said he had a different opinion from Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto on the transparency of data from the Corona virus case. According to Anies, transparency can calm the public.
Corona has begun to be discussed by the DKI Provincial Government since January 6. Although the sample of patients with ‘Wuhan pneumonia’ symptoms when declared negative by the central government laboratory for Corona, Anies still felt the need to tell the public that people should now be more careful. Information about the risk of this outbreak does not need to be covered by the public eye.
“Therefore, our approach always ensures transparency about the case and transparency about what we do, so that the public has confidence in us,” Anies said in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald journalist James Massola, al AFP accessed from the YouTube account of the DKI Jakarta provincial government, Monday (05/11/2020).
“And we have a different paradigm about it. The Minister of Health does not have the same opinion about it,” Anies said.
Anies claimed to have a different opinion from Terawan Health Minister about transparency. However, Anies said this was not a political issue. This is a matter of differences in the views of technocrats, academics who participate in government.
“In our opinion, being transparent and transmitting what you are doing will produce a sense of security. But the Ministry of Health contradicts that transparency will create panic. And that is not our opinion,” Anies said.
