Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –

Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan claiming deployment corona virus in the capital region they are beginning to show signs of decline. According to Anies, positive cases and active cases in Jakarta tilted along with reduced mobility of residents during the tightening of large-scale social restrictions (PSBB).

Anies explained that in the first 12 days of September the sum of active cases was 49 percent or 3,864 cases. However, in the next 12 days, the increase in active cases dropped to 12 percent or 1,453 cases.

“Basing the chart of active cases is not the ultimate goal. We still have to work together to break the chain of transmission,” Anies said in a written statement, on Thursday (9/24).

According to data from the provincial government of DKI Jakarta, on August 30, the number of positive cases was 39,280, while on September 11 the number of positive cases was 52,321. This means that during that period the number of cases increased by 33 percent or increased by 13,041 cases in that period.

There were 8,981 patients who were declared cured in the same period. Meanwhile, the number of cases killed by Covid in this period increased by 196 people.

During that period, the number of active cases in Jakarta increased by 3,864 cases, an increase of 49 percent.

The figures were tilted in the subsequent 12-day period or Sept. 12-23. During that period, the number of positive cases increased by 14,184 cases or just 27 percent.

On the other hand, during that period, the number of patients who recovered increased quite rapidly. It was recorded that from September 12 to 23 the number of recovered patients reached 12,463 people, an increase of 32 percent.

However, the death rate in that period has increased considerably. According to the data, from September 12 to 23, the number of people who died due to Covid-19 in Jakarta reached 268 people.

The active case also decreased. During that period, only 1,453 active cases were recorded in the Jakarta area.

According to Anies, the increasing number of positive cases was due to an increase in the number of tests. The addition of active cases also continues to be of concern to the DKI provincial government.

“The number of active cases continues to increase and needs attention, especially with regard to the capacity of health facilities,” Anies said.

“What should also be of particular concern is the death rate, which continues to rise, although it shows the first signs of a slope when the current death rate is 2.5 percent,” he added.

The former Minister of Education and Culture explained that the slope of daily cases since the hardening of the PSBB can be seen in the box of beginning of cases (adjusted to the date of transmission) and also in the Rt value or reproduction of the virus.

At the beginning of September, Jakarta’s Rt value was 1.14 and is currently down to 1.10. This means that 100 people have the potential to transmit the virus to 110 other people. For this reason, the transmission must be continuously suppressed until the Rt value is less than 1.00.

“Population movement clearly has an effect on increasing virus transmission. The greater the population movement, the greater the virus transmission,” he explained.

He explained that this beginning to appear was in line with the increase in residents staying at home during the PSBB. The team from the Faculty of Public Health (FKM) at the University of Indonesia (UI) calculated that at least 60 percent of the population needed to be at home to reduce the spread of the corona virus.

“Currently, about 50 percent of the population is still at home,” Anies said.

Although it has shown signs of slowing down, Anies stressed that the increase in positive cases still needs to be watched. According to him, without strict restrictions and with the current level of evidence, the daily addition of cases in Jakarta is projected to reach 2,000 per day in mid-October, while active cases will reach 20,000 in early November.

Therefore, Anies decided to continue to extend PSBB Volume II for the next two weeks starting Monday (9/28) through October 11.

This decision was made based on the results of the evaluation of the COVID-19 Management Working Group of the province of DKI Jakarta and also on the Decree of the Governor of DKI Jakarta Number 959/2020, which requires an extension of the restrictions over the next 14 days if the cases have not decreased significantly.
