Not only because of the calculations between the two presidential candidates, Donald Trump and Joe Biden, which have not ended so far, but also because of a demonstration that was held by a mass of supporters, on Thursday (05/11/2020) local time.
The protests almost took place in several cities in the US states Biden’s supporters ask to ‘count all votes’ while Trump supporters call for him to stop with chants of ‘protect the ballots’.
In Philadelphia, for example, as Biden supporters dance to celebrate prominence as their candidate, a group of Trump supporters waving flags and chanting ‘Stop voting on Election Day’ and ‘Sorry, the polls are closed’ .
“We can’t let the count be intimidated,” said a Biden supporter, Bob Posuney, wearing a T-shirt that read “counts all votes.”
The same incident also occurred in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Trump supporters chanted ‘Stop Theft’.
“This is a fight for two things, truth and justice,” said a man named Presler from Virginia, who said he would raise funds himself to audit the vote count.
In New York there were also actions that caused riots. The police even arrested 50 people.
The riots came after Biden’s strongholds waiting for the count to resume demonstrated in front of the Trump winning team’s office on Washington Park Avenue. The rally was initially peaceful, but after an hour was up, there were reports of riots on Leroy Street and 7th Avenue in Greenwich Village, New York.
In addition to arresting the 50 perpetrators, several sharp weapons and fireworks were also seized. The NYPD also seized weapons, including M80 fireworks and a stun gun with the word “police” written on it, as well as a knife.
In Portland, Oregon, riots were also reported. Quoted from AFP, the masses that began to turn violent after the peaceful demonstration threw stones, glass bottles and Molotov cocktails at the police.
So far, the police have secured 10 people along with evidence of sharpened weapons and Molotovs. Oregon Gov. Kate Brown has deployed the National Guard to deal with unrest that she believes could spread across the state.
In addition, riots also began to be reported in Missouri, Denver, Detroit to Los Angeles.
As of Friday morning (11/5/2020), the vote count for the two candidates had not changed.
Biden along with Kamala Harris got 264 votes. While Trump was paired with Mike Pence he got 214 votes.
When viewed from the popular vote, Biden also won 50.4% of the vote. Meanwhile, Trump, in the Associated Press data, registered 47.9% support.
