Again, Huawei showed DSLR photos for mobile advertising

Apparently, Huawei does not give up on claiming photos taken with a DSLR as a photo from home shots of mobile phones. Having been caught in 2018, they are now doing it again.

Huawei displayed the photos in question in a video promoting the photography contest they held. The photos were written with the description ‘taken with Huawei smartphones’, but some of them turned out to be photographs taken from DSLR cameras.

A Weibo user named Jamie-hua aka Huapeng Zhao is aware of this. Zhao, who also won second place in the 2018 iPhone Photography Award contest, recognized a photo in the Huawei video, as quoted by the South China Morning Post on Wednesday (04/22/2020).

He then did a little search, and then found the photo on the 500 px platform, which was a photo of Su Tie. Tie uses a Nikon D850 DSLR camera to take photos of those questioned by Zhao.

Huawei then issued an apology via Weibo and said it was the fault of the publisher who incorrectly marked the photo. The photo, according to Huawei, is actually meant to invite people to share their photos in Huawei’s online gallery.

Later, the video was updated by Huawei and the information that the photo was taken using a Huawei cell phone was no longer included. But they still say the photo was taken from Huawei’s Next-Image community, which Huawei says can be used to post snapshots of any device.

Previously, Huawei had made the same “mistake” multiple times. Just like in 2016, when they used a photo taken with the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and claimed to be the P9 photos, though the photo was later removed.

Then, in 2018, a Reddit user found an Instagram post showing the process of making the Huawei Nova 3 announcement. In the end result, the announcement was seen when the model was taking a selfie using a cell phone, but The photo shows the manufacturing process if the photo was actually taken using a DSLR.
