Again, first behind, win later

Manchester United continue their excellent away trend this season. Left behind before finally winning.

During their visit to West Ham United’s home at London’s Olympic Stadium on Sunday (6/12/2020) early morning from the WIB, MU played poorly in the first half.

As a result, Tomas Soucek’s goal left them behind in the 38th minute and even came close to conceding several goals from the opening minutes. However, the inclusion of Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford in the second half changed the game.

United tied the score in the 63rd minute with a long-range goal from Paul Pogba off a pass from Fernandes, before Mason Grenwood put his team ahead five minutes later.

Rashford’s goal in the 76th minute secured the 3-1 victory and led United to climb to fourth place in the standings with 19 points.

MU has once again proven its status as the comeback king in away games this season. Due to five away victories this season, Manchester United won them after falling behind against both Brighton & Holve Albion, Newcastle United, Everton, Southampton and West Ham.

For the first time since 1985/1986, United have won their first five league games away from home and have earned the most points in late position in the Premier League, 385 points.

“We can’t go on like this (conceding first). If we can clean the goal more often, we can certainly win more. It’s good to show this kind of enthusiasm, but ideally not to concede first,” Rashford said in BBC Sport.

What Rashford said is true because Manchester United are the second Premier League team, after Leeds United in April 2001, to concede two or more goals in nine consecutive away games.
