Leicester –
Manchester United are not only eliminated from the FA Cup. However, they have broken the record of undefeated at home against opponents at the national level for more than a year.
MU faced Leicester City in the quarter-final match at the King Power Stadium on Monday (3/22/2021) early morning WIB. MU is clearly more favored due to good morale after qualifying for the Europa League quarter-finals a few days ago.
Therefore, Manchester United with such a dominating record of encounters over Leicester should be able to easily outpace their opponents. But, the fact is, MU has a hard time keeping up with the Leicester game.
Despite being 52 percent higher than possession, MU only made nine attempts with five on target. Meanwhile, Leicester made five goal attempts out of a total of 11 attempts.
Leicester took the lead through Kelechi Iheanacho in the 24th minute to maximize MU’s defensive errors, before being equalized by Mason Greenwood in the 38th minute.
In the second half, Leicester were more trenggs and made MU overwhelmed by the host’s stamina. Iheanacho’s second goal, interspersed with Youri Tielemans’ solo goal, saw Leicester win 3-1 and qualify for the semi-finals.
This loss was MU’s first loss to Leicester in their last 14 meetings, since they beat 3-5 in September 2014. The result also tarnished MU’s sanctity at home in the national arena for more than a year.
Before being defeated by Leicester, MU had gone through 30 away games in all national competitions without a loss. The last time MU fell was when they lost 2-0 to Liverpool in January 2020 in the league.
Now MU only has the Europa League and the English League as a chance to win a trophy this season. Although in the Premier League it is something impossible because Manchester United is 14 points behind Manchester City with nine games to play.
MU oh MU …
