Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KSPI) has confirmed that it will not hold a demonstration as part of a nationwide strike in front of the Presidential Palace in Jakarta today, Thursday (10/8/2020.

KSPI President Said Iqbal said the national strike on the third day was still taking place, but that it was not focused on Jakarta.

“Still according to the original plan, the location of the national strike will be in the vicinity of the factory or the surrounding areas determined by the management of the local branch,” he said in an official statement this Thursday (10/8).

The action was carried out to urge the government to revoke the Omnibus Employment Creation Law (Ciptaker), which was ratified by the Plenary of the DPR, on Monday (5/10).

The workers objected to the discussion of the Omnibus Law, which was considered rushed and appeared to be pursuing broadcasts.

In addition, there are several fundamental problems that are considered detrimental to workers’ rights and impact on job security, income security and social security.

These various problems have caused workers and various elements of society to take to the streets. On the second day or yesterday, the action got bigger and bigger with the number of elements taking to the streets increasing. Not only workers but also students, students and environmental activists.

Some areas that made big moves, among others, occurred in Tangerang, Jakarta, Bogor, Karawang, Bekasi, Purwakarta, Bandung, Subang, Lampung, Gresik, Surabaya, Batam, etc.

Previously, Said Iqbal with the President of the Confederation of Indonesian Workers’ Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, met with President Joko Widodo at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta on Monday (10/5/2020).

He revealed that the meeting aims to discuss issues that are being widely discussed, namely the subject of the Omnibus Bill that has been ratified into law.

“[Bicara] the overall consideration process, “he said.

However, it seems that this is not the only time that labor leaders have been summoned to the palace. In the future, communication is expected to continue.

“Later, Bung Andi will be called again, please follow up. If I look at the situation. If Bung Andi looks like him, they will call him again. Wait for the news,” he explained.

Unlike the KSPI, the Confederation of the Indonesian Trade Union Alliance (KASBI) will move the point of the rally to the State Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday (8/10/2020).

KASBI Secretary General (Sekjen) Sunarno estimated that the action at the Palace would be followed by at least 20,000 joint Masses. Not only the working masses, but also elements of the student organizations and the community movement in general.

“In the palace, the estimate comes from workers, student friends and other organizations of the movement, about 20 thousand,” he told CNNIndonesia.com.
