Based on Gaethje’s statement, that confidence grew out of the course of the duel against Khabib.
Gaethje felt that he could upset Khabib even though he lost in the end.
“He could take two or three hits, a big hit to the head. I got him (Khabib) in trouble,” Gaethje said. MMA fight.
“He doesn’t kick me a lot because he has trouble walking. He’s going to be limping for at least a week,” Gaethje added.

Gaethje, who was not seriously injured during the duel against Khabib, later admitted that he was ready to face the next fight.
“Choking (on receiving Khabib’s padlock) is a sweet little dream, and I must move on to the next dream,” Gaethje said as he compared his disposition.
“I think there are no serious consequences for that, and I like it. Now there is a belt at stake,” Gaethje said.

Gaethje clearly challenged Conor McGregor to be the next opponent.
However, Gaethje seems to have to be patient to make that wish come true.
The reason is that McGregor, who announced his retirement from the UFC, is in talks to hold a charity duel against Dustin Poirier.
McGregor reportedly accepted an offer to duel Dustin Poirier. However, there has been no official statement from the two camps.
Gaethje’s desire to duel McGregor can only happen if he wants to come out of retirement.
“With the retirement of (Khabib Nurmagomedov), I became number one,” Gaethje said.
“Dustin Poirier and McGregor are going to fight. They haven’t made it official yet, so if McGregor wants to get up and get the belt, I’m here,” Gaethje said.
