After Havertz, will this player become Chelsea’s next target?

Chelsea just made the official transfer of Kai Havertz this summer. The Blues are reportedly still looking at more players. Who is she?

Havertz becomes the sixth Chelsea player to sign this summer. The German attacking midfielder was bought by Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen for around 72 million pounds, which could rise to 92 million pounds if the player succeeds in England.

Havertz himself was hired after Chelsea brought in two forward players, Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, then defender Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, Malang Sarr and young player Xavier Mbuyamba. Although they have recruited many players, Chelsea are apparently still not satisfied.

Chelsea are reportedly still wanting to fix the goalkeeping sector to find a competitor for Kepa Arrizabalaga. This is because the Spain goalkeeper still performed fiercely last season, conceding 58 goals and keeping just 10 clean sheets.

And the target is Edouard Mendy. The Rennes goalkeeper entered the Blues’ radar.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Chelsea will increase efforts next week to hook Mendy. Chelsea’s sporting director Peter Cech was sent to sign him for Stamford Bridge.

Cech himself is no stranger to Rennes. He had defended the Ligue 1 club in the 2002-2004 season, before moving to Chelsea and becoming successful as a player.

Mendy himself is still relatively cheaply priced. The 28-year-old goalkeeper is only estimated to be priced at £ 18 million, which Chelsea can easily redeem.

Last season, Mendy himself played 33 times for Rennes. He conceded 33 times and kept 13 clean sheets.

Apart from Mendy, Chelsea were originally linked to several goalkeepers. Among them are Andre Onana (Ajax Amsterdam), Jan Oblak (Atlético de Madrid), Nick Pope (Burnley) and Roman Burki (Borussia Dortmund).
