JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla considered the leader of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), Rizieq Shihab, a law-abiding person.
This was relayed by Kalla in response to Rizieq, who is being asked by the National Police to appear as a witness regarding the alleged violation of health protocols at his daughter’s marriage in Petamburan, Central Jakarta, on November 14, 2020.
According to Kalla, Rizieq is a law-abiding figure because he received a court verdict that led to him being imprisoned in 2008 as a result of an attack on the National Alliance for Freedom of Religion and Belief or AKKBB during the Monas, Jakarta Incident.

“I ordered the chief of police to be arrested even though there was no Habib Rizieq, but I’m sure he knows. I asked Rizieq to take responsibility and have the police examine him. And then go to court for a year of prison, ”Kalla said in an exclusive interview with News One editor-in-chief Claudius Boekan on the YouTube channel News One on Friday (4/12/2020).
“He (Rizieq) accepted it and there was no scandal. So actually, Rizieq Shihab is a law abiding person. He was jailed twice. And well received. As long as he walks the court,” Kalla said.
Kalla also believes that Rizieq will follow the legal process that applies to him as long as the case is not fabricated.
The Chairman of the Indonesian Mosque Council said that in 2008 Rizieq accepted the court’s decision without any problem from the FPI crowd because his case was proven and he should be responsible for the attack.
Kalla said it would not be a problem if Rizieq and FPI wanted to preach because it is the duty of every religion. However, he recalled that preaching should not be accompanied by violence.
“And it was well received (Rizieq). So in my opinion, if there is a proven bug, don’t make it up. He will accept it. He (Rizieq) is not such a person (disobedient to the law), ”said Kalla.
As is well known, the National Police are waiting for Rizieq to testify on the alleged violation of health protocols at his daughter’s wedding in Petamburan, Jakarta, on November 14.

More recently, the police shot dead six members of the FPI laskar because they were suspected of assaulting Polda Metro Jaya staff while conducting investigations into the Rizieq case.
However, the FPI denied the statement by Jakarta Police Chief Inspector General Fadil Imran. According to the FPI, there was an ambush and a shootout against the leader of the FPI, Rizieq Shihab and his family.
FPI President Ahmad Shabri Lubis claimed that the six soldiers guarding Rizieq were kidnapped. Shabri explained that the incident occurred when Rizieq and her family, including her young grandson, headed to the family recitation ceremony.
