KOMPAS.com – The Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) has extended the deadline to register the cell phone numbers of students, students, teachers and speakers who will receive free assistance with internet fees, to support Distance Education (PJJ).

The deadline for registering mobile phone numbers, which was originally August 31, has now been postponed until September 11, 2020.

However, due to postponed registration times, a number of questions about the free internet quota program of the Ministry of Education and Culture to support the PJJ remain unanswered.

It is not yet known whether this assistance will be in the form of a data fee to be added directly to the cell phone number, or in the form of a credit with a certain face value, for the purchase data fee.

It is not yet known if the free data quota will be limited to certain apps or sites, or if students can use the free data quota to access anything.

Nor is it known whether the applications that can be accessed through the free quota will be different in each cellular operator, or will be uniform.

Currently, the Ministry of Education and Culture continues to debate these types of issues, which will later be detailed in the technical guidelines (juknis).

“Please wait when the technical guidelines (technical instructions) are final,” said Evy Mulyani, head of the Office of Public Relations and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education and Culture through a short message.

Earlier, Evy explained that the Internet subsidies would be provided for four months, starting from September to December 2020.

“Students will get 35GB per month, teachers 42GB per month, students and teachers 50GB per month,” Evy said when contacted by Kompas.com last week.

KompasTekno has also contacted the Association of Telecommunications Operators of Indonesia (ATSI), but has not received a response.

Unlike e-learning package for mobile operators

Previously, several Indonesian cellular operators had launched low-priced learning fee packages. However, this fee is different from the free fee program of the Ministry of Education and Culture, users still have to purchase independently.

Mobile operators launching a learning quota package include Telkomsel with a 10GB package for Rp.10, XL and Axis with the Xtra Conference and Xtra Edukasi XL packages, as well as Axis Boostr Education and Boostr Conference.

Students using Hutchison Tri Indonesia (3) can also enjoy a 1GB per day online learning quota in the AlwaysOn package for 30 days. Likewise, Indosat Ooredoo, which just launched IMClass, offers a 30 GB package for IDR 1.

For information purposes, this fee subsidy plan emerged after the Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud), Nadiem Makarim, said that the government would grant internet fee subsidies for students, teachers, students and lecturers during the Education period. Distance (PJJ).
