Seven people died in the UK from unusual blood clots after receiving the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.
The deaths of the seven people were confirmed by the British drug regulator MHRA to the BBC.
As reported BBC, On Saturday (3/4/2021), in total, 30 of the 18 million people who had been vaccinated as of March 24 had this blood clot. It is unclear if this was just a coincidence or an actual side effect of the vaccine.
The Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) says the benefits continue to outweigh any risks. However, concerns have led other countries, including Germany, France, the Netherlands and Canada, to limit the use of vaccines to the elderly.
Data released by MHRA on Friday (2/4) local time showed 22 cases of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST), which is a type of blood clot in the brain.
This is accompanied by a low level of platelets, which help blood clots form in the body. The MHRA also found other clotting problems in addition to low platelet levels in eight people.
Now the MHRA has confirmed, by email to the BBC, that “sadly seven people have died”.
MHRA Executive Director Dr. June Raine said: “The benefits … in preventing COVID-19 infection and its complications continue to outweigh the risks and people should continue to receive their vaccinations when invited to do it”.
